Ecto Bench
Location: Lisbon, Portugal
Role: Co-designer with Minna Ala-Jaaski and Anders Christiansen
Commissioned for the architecture and design biennial Experimenta Design 2009 in Lisbon, the piece was an urban bench prototype with interactive color characteristics. The bench aimed to be an ‘indicator’ of activity in the urbanscape, registering activity and change in its color. The bench was finished with a thermochromic paint layer which would become transparent with heat and touch, revealing the hidden second layer of color. The bench was fabricated using digital fabrication and water jet cutting technologies.
